Day 1

A Promise Fulfilled (word count 247)

Matthew 1:19 (NIV) This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 7:14 (NIV) "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."
Reflection:

Mary was living in Galilee when she became engaged to Joseph, a carpenter by trade. One day an angel appeared to her and spoke words that would change her world, and ours, forever. This young girl was to give birth to a son. The child would be called Jesus and He was the Son of God. This was to be a fulfillment of a prophecy given in Isaiah 7:14.

As I curl up beside the fireplace reading these timeless words, I wonder what it must have been like for Mary. This young girl found herself unwed and pregnant. Mary knew that she would be shunned and that people would not believe her. Yet the bible tells us that she praised God.

There is much that I can learn from this young girl; simple trust and a spirit of praise in the midst of difficult circumstances.

A Prayer:
Father, let my heart be full of praise for You no matter what the circumstances. May I encounter Jesus in a new and fresh way this Christmas. Amen.
